Cllr. John Dixon and Cllr. Ann Rowland-James are proud that Cardiff's Lib Dem council is launching free food waste recycling next month.

In October, Cardiff's Liberal Democrat council will be launching FREE food waste recycling to every house in the city.

Depending on where you live, you will already have a green wheelie bin or white biobags, for recycling composting. From mid-October, you will be able to put food waste in these instead of black bags. Whether it's potato peelings, teabags or even discarded meat, it can all now be recycled!

In the next few weeks, residents will be receiving their "Kitchen Caddy" and a roll of biodegradable liners. The caddy goes in your kitchen to store all the food waste and, when it's full, just take out the liner and put it in your green bin or white bag for collection. Simple!

After the new scheme has launched, collections of black bags will still be WEEKLY and collections of green recycling bags will still be FORTNIGHTLY. But food and composting waste will now be collected EVERY WEEK.

Cardiff North's Lib Dem Parliamentary spokesman, John Dixon, told us: "Information packs will be going out soon about the new system, but more information can be obtained online at http://www.compostisgood.com or from Connect-2-Cardiff on (029) 2087 2087."

Lib Dem councillor for Llandaff North, Ann Rowland-James, added: "The Lib Dems are committed to better recycling. Cardiff will be the first city in the UK to have a free service like this across the whole city - it's a great achievement."
