Thumbs-up for our library! Cllr. Cathy Pearcy and Cllr. Ed Bridges have welcomed news that Cardiff’s Lib Dem council will be investing in restoring Cathays Library.

The Gabalfa Liberal Democrat Focus Team is delighted that Cathays Library is likely to receive a cash boost to restore it to its former glory.

The library, which is a listed Carnegie building, is in need of major work to make it fit for the 21st Century. However, under Lib Dem proposals for the Council's budget, £900,000 would be made available for a major re-fit of the building.

Cllr. Cathy Pearcy said: "The library needs some attention - there's a big problem with damp, and it doesn't meet modern standards. But the options now being looked at would see the west wing by Whitchurch Road brought back into use and facilities improved. Once again, important local facilities are being improved by our Lib Dem council."

Previous options for library facilities in the area were explored, but by far the most popular with residents was for the existing building to be restored.

Cllr. Ed Bridges told www.cardifflibdems.org.uk: "After years of Labour neglect, Cathays Library is finally going to see much-needed investment to restore this fantastic building. It's great news."
