Lib Dem action on Pantmawr drainage problems10.39.49am GMT Tue 23rd Jan 2007
Welsh Liberal Democrats are pressing Welsh Water to deal with drainage problems on the Pantmawr Estate. For several years now at times of very heavy rainfall, the cover of a manhole in Caer Wenallt opposite the lower end of Tyla Teg has been lifted by the pressure and volume of water in the drains beneath it. Local residents have regularly advised the authorities of this fact as the cover tends to remain partly lifted after each storm and presents a tripping hazard. Water gushing from the manhole also represents a hazard to anyone using the pavement. More worryingly, water also emerges from beneath the pavement adjacent to the manhole damaging the pavement. Local resident, Huw Payne, told us: "Resurfacing has been carried out on a number of occasions at some cost, but the pavement is again in a damaged condition. The footpath will continue to be damaged while the drainage problem is unresolved. The ground floors of most of the houses opposite the bottom end of Tyla Teg are below road level and water overflowing from the road is beginning to cause flooding of the properties themselves. This cannot be allowed to continue" Local Lib Dem activist, Fenella Bowden, said: "We believe action needs to be taken now to rectify these drainage deficiencies. It is Welsh Water's responsibility to take this matter seriously." The Rhiwbina & Pantmawr Focus Team have written to Welsh Water, calling for work to be carried out to rectify the problem. If you would like more information or would like to be kept informed of any response received, do get in touch.
