Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Rodney Berman was named 'Councillor of the Year' at the ITV Wales Politician of the Year Awards held in Cardiff last night.

Steve Thomas, WLGA Chief Executive congratulated Cllr Berman on his award:

"I should like to congratulate Rodney on his well-deserved award. Rodney is the youngest council leader in Wales and this award is recognition not only of his substantial role as leader of Cardiff, but of his national role working on behalf of Welsh local government within the WLGA."

"I am particularly pleased that ITV Wales has this year expanded its Politician of the Year Awards to include councillors, who are traditionally overlooked despite their vital and significant role in society. These political awards, combined with the WLGA's Excellence Wales awards in March, at last give due recognition to the achievements and significant role of local government in Wales."
