Over the last 7 years, Cardiff's libraries have seen major investment with over £26 million spent improving libraries and building new ones.

Councillor Nigel Howells, who's responsible for libraries in Cardiff said, "I am pleased that the Liberal Democrats recognise how important libraries are to our communities and have put in the investment to improve and modernise the service."

LABOUR'S CLOSURE PLAN

"When Labour ran the Council, they had plans to close both Roath and Cathays Libraries but the Lib Dems scrapped these plans and have managed to invest a huge amount of money to bring our libraries into the 21st Century."

Investment in our libraries:

• A brand new and award winning state-of-the-art Central Library in the City Centre

• Full refurbishment of the historic Cathays Library (which Labour planned to close)

• Refurbishment of Rhydypennau Library in Cyncoed

• A new library & community centre in Penylan

• A new library at the STAR Leisure Centre, Splott

• A new Library in Llanrumney

• A new Library in Grangetown

• £245,000 refurbishment of Fairwater Library (reopened February 2011)

• Shortly due to refurbish Canton & Radyr Libraries

Cardiff's Lib Dem-led Council has invested record sums in our local libraries since 2004 ()
