Planning permission REFUSED for Talybont Gate flats following Focus Team's efforts

Local Lib Dem campaigners have successfully ensured that planning permission will be REFUSED for a seven-storey block of student flats at Talybont Gate.
The Gabalfa Liberal Democrat Focus Team have secured a major victory for local residents, after getting a planning application turned down for a seven-storey block of student flats in the area.
Cardiff University was told that they will be refused permission to build a seven-storey block of 179 flats at Talybont Gate, on an overflow car park near to McDonald's in Gabalfa, after Cllr. Ed Bridges spoke out against the plans and explained the concerns of the local community. Local Lib Dem campaigner, Gareth Holden, had also submitted a petition against the scheme, citing major concerns over the lack of parking for the new flats. The Planning Committee voted by eight votes to one in favour of deferring the application for a month so that a full list of reasons for refusal could be worked up. Committee Members had said that the application was an inappropriate over-development of the site. Cardiff University have already indicated that they will appeal the decision.
Speaking at the Planning Committee meeting when the application was considered, Cllr. Ed Bridges, said: "The seven-storey building is completely at odds with its surroundings, and the lack of any on-site parking for the tenants of the scheme would simply add to local parking congestion. Cardiff University need to rethink their application and come back with something more sympathetic to the surroundings which takes on board the concerns of the community."
Earlier in the meeting, Cllr. Bridges had said that more on-site parking was needed at Talybont, and that the new seven-storey building would dwarf surrounding blocks.
Local resident, Gareth Holden, submitted a petition against the proposals. He said: "It's good to see our local Lib Dem councillor standing up for us on this issue. Labour pretend to care about this application, but they weren't present at the meeting. It's obvious who really has the needs of our community at heart. I now want to see the Labour Assembly back up the council by rejecting any appeal on these plans."
