John Dixon and Cllr. Cathy Pearcy are pleased that streets in Gabalfa which voted in favour of wheelie bins will be receiving them by Christmas.

Over the summer, Cardiff Council consulted residents of some streets in Gabalfa ward to find out whether people wanted wheelie bins. The results of the consultation have now been announced.

In all the streets, residents were given the option of moving to a wheelie bin system for the collection of rubbish, or of remaining on the tri-bag collection scheme. Following a detailed consultation where every property on the streets affected was sent a questionnaire, the results are as follows:

MOVING TO A WHEELIE BIN COLLECTION:

  • Cross Place
  • Edington Avenue
  • Heathfield Place
  • Heathfield Road
  • Herbert Street
  • Laytonia Avenue
  • Llanishen Street
  • Parkfield Place (even nos. and nos. 3-7)
  • Pen-y-Bryn Place
  • Pen-y-Bryn Road
  • Pen-y-Bryn Way

REMAINING ON BAG COLLECTION

  • Allensbank Crescent
  • Manor Street
  • Parkfield Place (nos. 9-39)
  • Quentin Street
  • Soberton Avenue

Local councillor, Ed Bridges, said: "This is a real victory for democracy! All the streets which had a strong majority in favour of remaining on bag collections have been allowed to do so, but in many streets residents were keen to move to the wheelie bin system to cut down on problems with seagulls splitting open bags and creating a mess."

Local activist, John Dixon, added: "Everyone was given a chance to have their say, and I hope that the new system will bed down and help to make our area clean and tidy."
