Cllrs. Ed Bridges and Cathy Pearcy have met on-site with officials from Cardiff Council to highlight work which needs to be completed on the Parkfield Place Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme.

Liberal Democrats in Gabalfa ward are calling for work to be completed on the Parkfield Place Neighbourhood Renewal Scheme.

Earlier this year, after a successful application from Gabalfa's Lib Dem councillors, work was undertaken to construct a new stretch of road on the even-numbered side of the street. Extra parking was also added and lighting was improved. The Lib Dem Council also re-seeded the grass area in the middle of the street last month, in response to a request from Cllr. Ed Bridges.

Some parts of the scheme, however, have not been carried out as expected. One side of the new pavement opposite number 22 has yet to be resurfaced with tarmac, and the perimeter fence does not currently extend the whole way around the grass area.

Cllr. Ed Bridges said: "I have met on-site with officers from Cardiff Council to ask about these issues. They have agreed to look into carrying out the extra resurfacing, and have informed me that the perimeter fence cannot be extended along the parking area by numbers 8-20 because of drains under the grass area. They have, however, promised to monitor the situation over the coming months to see whether any further works need to be carried out."

The Lib Dems also continue to lobby the Council to consider making the new parking area residents-only. The area is plagued by parking congestion problems, which also affect Cross Place and Herbert Street.

Cllr. Cathy Pearcy told us: "Under existing Council policy, Parkfield Place already has its full allocation of residents-only parking. However, the policy is soon to be reviewed, and we will be making representations about Parkfield Place to see if the matter might be reconsidered."
