Cllr. Ann Rowland-James addresses the public meeting opposing plans to build 14 flats on land at radyr Place, Mynachdy.
Residents from Mynachdy came together at a public meeting yesterday to re-affirm their opposition to plans to build a controversial development on land at Radyr Place.
The meeting was organised by Llandaff North Lib Dem councillor, Ann Rowland-James, and attended by around 25 residents as well as Lib Dem Assembly candidate, Cllr. Ed Bridges (who also represents the adjoining ward of Gabalfa).
Residents felt strongly that the previous site visit by the Council's Planning Committee for the application was unsatisfactory. The Committee had been running late to the meeting, and moved through the business of the site visit quickly to get back on schedule. The problems were exacerbated by the bad weather, which meant that many residents had left the site by the time the Committee had arrived and, as a result did not get the opportunity to raise points of information or make their strong opposition to the application known by a visible protest.
As a result of this, all the attendees of the public meeting signed a petition, calling for a second site visit to be held, and any decision on the application deferred until that has been completed. Cllr. Ann Rowland-James has the application and will submit it to the Planning offices in advance of Wednesday's Planning Committee meeting.
The assembled residents also re-affirmed their total opposition to the planning application on the following grounds:
• Access
• Loss of Open Space
• Pollution
• Loss of Light
• Loss of Privacy
• Unacceptability of Design of the Proposed Structure
• Construction Traffic
• Sewers
Cllr. Ann Rowland-James told us: "The proposed development would be extremely ugly, resembling an aircraft hanger, and residents simply do not want it. I will do all I can to get planning permission refused for this application and to ensure the concerns of residents are heard. I will also push as hard as I can for another site visit so that residents can get a proper chance to make their opposition known to the Planning Committee."
Cllr. Ed Bridges added: "The loss of open space for this application would be devastating - not just to the adjoining residents, but also to the people of Gabalfa ward as well. This open space has been here for 40+ years, and I believe that sets a strong enough precedent for the council to step in and protect this important local amenity."
