Cllr. Cathy Pearcy by the new disabled crossing
Residents in South Mynachdy in Gabalfa ward may well have already noticed the new disabled crossing at the bottom of Mynachdy Road, which was installed last week.
The crossing, linking Mynachdy Road with the footpath down to Tesco Extra on Excelsior Way, was installed after a request from local Lib Dem councillors, Ed Bridges and Cathy Pearcy.
Ed, who is also the party's candidate for next year's Welsh Assembly elections, told us: "A local resident came to my advice surgery in October to say that it was impossible for anyone in a wheelchair to get from Mynachdy Road to Tesco without a massive detour. I was appalled that such a problem could be allowed to occur in the 21st Century and I contacted the council immediately to ask for the crossing to be changed to accommodate disabled users."
"It took a few months to persuade the council to carry out the necessary work, but I am delighted that it has now been done. I hope it will make life easier for residents in Mynachdy."
Cllr. Cathy Pearcy, who lives in Mynachdy, added: "Once again, local improvements have come about as the result of action by Gabalfa ward Liberal Democrats. I would urge any local resident with an issue of concern to contact us and we'll do all we can to help."
