MAKE OUR CROSSING SAFER

October 19, 2006 12:00 AM

Cathays Liberal Democrat councillors are calling on the council to install a safe crossing point on Cathays Terrace to make the junction with Crwys Road safer for children and lollypop ladies.

The problem was raised at the last Cathays PACT meeting, when local Lollypop ladies told local councillors and police that they afraid for the safety of pupils.

Local Lib Dem councillors took action and have arranged a meeting with council officers, lollypop ladies and neighbourhood police to discuss the problem.

Jon Aylwin, Welsh Lib Dem County Councillor for Cathays commented, "We need to find a way to make this junction safer for everyone. It seems that far too many motorists are either driving through red and amber lights, or turning left from Crwys Road onto Cathays Terrace."

"Our lollypop ladies do a fantastic job at enforcing road safety and keeping our children safe. The council needs to look at this junction again and take whatever steps necessary to make it safer for school children, their parents and our lollypop ladies."
