Since coming to power in 2004, Liberal Democrats in Cardiff have helped transform the city of Cardiff.
Since 2004 the Lib Dems have:
- Kept Council Tax levels down
- Cut top councillors pay by 10% then froze them
- Scrapped Labours extra charge for green recycling bags and made the collections free to every home in the city
- Announced plans for a new Central Business District to bring thousands of new jobs to the city
- Free graffiti removal service
- Increased funding for road and pavement repairs, and road resurfacing
- Spent millions on new lesuire services including refurbishing Western Leisure Centre, a new gym and dance studio at the Maindy Centre, a refurbished Penylan Community Centre & installed new gym, new Sports Village in Cardiff Bay.
- Saved £8.7m in 2011 through efficiency savings and have plans for £22m next year
- Major regeneration schemes in Butetown including a new medical and community centre, secured the long awaited refurbishment of the Maelfa
- Planning a new Central Bus Station
- Invested millions transforming Council Homes including replacing kitchens and bathrooms and a program of over cladding to the outside of many properties.
- Introduced a new system of HMO licensing in Cathays which has already seen several bad landlords prosecuted and seen improvements to many student homes in the area.
